For any couple facing infertility, I urge them to buy this book written by one of the world’s leading authorities on assisted conception. You may recognise Winston from his BBC documentaries such as Human Instinct and Walking with Cavemen, but he has spent most of his professional life at the forefront of IVF science and has been responsible for many of the recent advances in treating human infertility. This book gives readers an account of the history and implications of reproductive engineering and looks at the ethical questions which are raised by the practice of IVF treatment. We are also given insight into Winston’s own personal experiences over many years. While it can sometimes read like a textbook filled with scientific jargon, this honest account of reproductive medicine is an engaging read and especially useful if you are heading down the path of assisted conception.
