Fun activities, invitations, crafts, table settings, dressing up and much more is included with each theme. The book is beautifully photographed and most of the recipes are simple and easy to follow (as long as you have a good selection cookie cutters!). There’s flower-shaped sandwiches, jewelled jellies, snowflake cupcakes, fairy broomsticks made with pretzels, punch and smoothies, heart-shaped pizzas and specially themed birthday cakes. It would suit girls aged 7-12 years. The only thing that really lets this book down is the price.

Publisher: Dorling Kindersley
RRP: $16.95

Glossy, colourful and easy to use, this clever recipe book will bring out the junior chef in any child. Its hard cover is made to stand up with flip-over pages, so you can prop it up on your kitchen counter and start cooking. Each recipe features easy-to-follow steps with accompanying photographs and warnings when a grown-up needs to assist. While many of the recipes are healthy, there are some that are obvious treats such as chocolate brownies. Unlike many other recipe books for children, there is no nutritional information included, such as fat or salt content. But there is variety with about 40 different recipes.
